Opioids Through the Ages: Caring for Children and Families in the Wake of the Opioid Crisis Abstracts Program


This inspiring, thought-provoking program will examine the effects of the Opioid Crisis on child and adolescent health and will address the pressing question of what pediatricians and other medical professionals can do to care for children and families who have been impacted by this public health emergency

We are now accepting abstracts for the poster session accompanying this meeting.

The submission deadline is Friday, April 12, 2019 at 11:59 PM

ABSTRACT GUIDELINES
  1. Abstracts submitted for Peds-21: Opioids Through the Ages should be related to pediatric pain management or issues related to the opioid crisis. Topics that will be considered include but are not limited to:
    • Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome
    • Substance Use – Screening, Prevention, & Treatment
    • Poisoning – Prevention & Treatment
    • Management of Acute Pain in Infants, Children, and Adolescents
    • Management of Chronic Pain in Infants, Children and Adolescents
    • Non-Pharmacological Approaches to Treating Pediatric Pain

  2. Abstracts will be accepted as poster presentations.
  3. Due to the diverse nature of the topics being considered for this session, no abstracts awards are to be given.
  4. Abstracts submitted for Peds-21 may also be submitted to a related 2019 National Conference and Exhibition section or council program. Abstracts may be submitted to another scientific society for presentation but should not have been published prior to presentation at the AAP. Papers presented at previous AAP meetings should not be re-submitted.
  5. Abstracts describing quality improvement projects can be submitted and may be eligible for 25 American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Part 4 points. Additional information, including requirements for MOC eligibility and instructions, can be found here.
  6. There will be no stipends for travel and expenses for presenters of accepted posters.
  7. As appropriate, all research conducted by abstract authors should have been approved by the Institutional Review Board of the institutions(s) where the research was conducted. Such information should be noted in the abstract. The abstract selection committee may ask for documentation of approval by the respective IRBs if warranted.
  8. Special consideration will be given to abstracts submitted and presented by physicians in training at any level.
