2019 Council on Injury, Violence, and Poison Prevention (COIVPP) Abstracts Program

  • Abstracts submitted to the Council on Injury, Violence & Poison Prevention should focus on any aspect of unintentional or intentional injury prevention. Three types of abstracts are encouraged:
    1. Research abstracts presenting original research findings
    2. Quality improvement abstracts presenting QI projects
    3. Program abstracts describing ongoing or completed projects focusing on injury prevention.
  • This council will consider original research, program, quality improvement and case report submissions.
  • Special consideration will be given to abstracts submitted and presented by physicians in training at any level.
  • Presenters of accepted abstracts should notify Bonnie Kozial (bkozial@aap.org) as soon as possible if they must cancel their presentation.
  • Abstracts are reviewed for appropriateness, scientific content, and quality. Abstracts are presented in 3 formats:
    1. 2-4 abstracts will be selected for a 10-12-minute oral presentation with no poster;
    2. Some of the accepted abstracts will be chosen for a brief (3-5-minute) podium presentation and a poster presentation during the poster session;
    3. Other abstracts will be presented only as a poster presentation during the poster session. Abstracts submitted may be considered for any format at the discretion of the Abstract Review Committee.
  • All research conducted by abstract authors should have been approved by the Institutional Review Board of the institutions(s) where the research was conducted. The abstract selection committee may ask for documentation of approval by the respective IRBs if warranted.
  • Abstracts may be submitted to another scientific society for presentation, but should not have been published prior to presentation at the AAP. Papers presented at previous AAP meetings should not be re-submitted.
  • Questions about the abstract program may be directed to Kim Randell, MD, MSc, FAAP (karandell@cmh.edu).
  • QI abstracts accepted for presentation may be eligible for free MOC Part 4 credit through the AAP’s Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Portfolio. Additional information, including requirements for MOC eligibility and instructions, can be found here.
