A Note on the Conference and the Pandemic
The CLA Conference Committee is currently planning for an in-person conference in Sacramento, June 2-4, 2022. We will be monitoring public health guidance during the pandemic and communicating with presenters and attendees about how our plans for the conference develop throughout the coming months.

Who Should Propose a Program
Anyone and everyone! We encourage new and seasoned professionals, students, paraprofessionals, librarians, administrators, library supporters, and library critics to apply. Invite your friends and colleagues! If you know non-library folks who can share something CLA needs to hear, encourage them to apply.

This year our theme is “Together Towards Tomorrow: We Strengthen Library Communities.” Think about resilience, changing how we offer services, and working through challenges! We’re looking for a diverse slate of programs that will speak to CLA members who work in all kinds of libraries, communities and capacities, especially academic, prison, law, tribal, and other special library perspectives. We want to particularly encourage submissions that prioritize the voices of people who belong to groups that have traditionally been marginalized, such as people who identify as BIPOC, immigrant, LGBTQ, differently abled/disabled.

Program proposals promoting or selling products/services during sessions will not be accepted.

Funding
● CLA does not provide financial support for Concurrent (regular), Ignite, Night Track, Poster or Pre-Conference programming.
● Presenters are required to obtain a conference registration by the close of the Early Bird registration period in order to present at conference. A full one-day registration for the day you are presenting is acceptable, but full conference registration is recommended. Requests for an exception must be submitted in writing and will only be granted for those who will not be attending any conference programming or events other than their presentation. Send requests via email to execdir@cla-net.org.

A/V
The AV package that CLA provides for pre-conference and concurrent programs is as follows: 1 podium mic, 2 tabletop microphones, LCD Projector with Screen and a Laptop Audio connection. CLA does not provide laptops, you will need to bring your own. You may need to provide your own adaptor for HDMI and/ or Apple/Mac dongle.

A Note on Children at Conference
To maintain a professional atmosphere throughout the conference, as well as to ensure the safety of CLA members, speakers, personnel, and exhibits; CLA allows children only if accompanied by an adult that is registered for the conference at all times. CLA requires children and their guardians to maintain a professional, disturbance-free environment at all times during educational programs and conference activities. If a child is unaccompanied at any time during the conference, the child and their guardian may be asked to leave the conference. Children are not allowed in the Exhibit Hall or at Special Events.

Program Types
Pre-Conference
Pre-conference programs are half-day to full-day workshops that provide a more in-depth look at a particular topic. These programs must provide more training and interaction than a concurrent program would. We are particularly looking for programs that fulfill one or more of the following:
○ Prioritize the voices of people who belong to groups that have been traditionally marginalized, such as people who identify as BIPOC, immigrant, LGBTQ, differently abled/disabled. Presenters who identify with these groups are especially encouraged to apply.
○ Are useful for staff at all levels and from a variety of library types.
○ Focus on things you didn’t learn in library school, but instead learn on the job.

Concurrent Programming
Concurrent programs provide in-depth look at a topic and allow for some interaction (Q&A or something more hands-on). More granularly, program types may include but are not limited to: Presentation, Panel Presentation (more than one person, no more than four), Roundtable Discussion, Workshop, etc. Concurrent Programs are all 45 minutes in length, including questions and answers.
○ Appeal to/are presented by a broad range of participants - library workers, students, friends and stakeholders, at multiple library types, and at various professional stages.

Poster Sessions
Poster sessions are an opportunity to speak casually, one-on-one with colleagues about a project, research interest, or passion. Presenters will be given a bulletin board (4’x8’) on which to affix visual materials (including but not limited to a poster). Presenters will be asked to host their materials for a 45-minute session. This is a great space to share an idea and network with peers without the pressure of presenting “on stage.”

Ignite Sessions
Ignite presentations are 5 minutes long, timed, and use no more than 20 slides (auto-advance is optional at CLA conference). These micro-presentations are a great way to perfect your elevator pitch for a topic or program for which you hope to win followers. They are very friendly for new presenters who want to gain experience but are also a wonderful opportunity for seasoned speakers to practice persuasion (and timing). Ignite presentations will be grouped together to fill a longer program slot. We are requesting proposals for Ignite sessions and more information about the Ignite format is available here: http://www.ignitetalks.io/.

Night Track
The Night Track programs are one-hour interactive events for attendees. Past Night Track sessions involve gaming, happy hours, music, and other activities. The conference planning committee wants input over what this less formal aspect of conference looks like. Come up with your best ideas for attendees.
