CNL Summit: Meeting the Moment: Integrating CNLs Throughout a Changing Healthcare System
February 23-25, 2023

DEADLINE : December 9, 2022, 11:59 pm EST

The American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) invites faculty, nursing administrators, practicing CNLs and students to submit abstracts that showcase initiatives and innovations in either CNL education or practice. Of particular interest are abstracts that reflect leadership, versatility, innovation, and highlight:
  • CNL practice in a time of change
  • Impact and value of the CNL role in achieving the Quadruple Aim: improved cost, quality, and service outcomes as well as healthcare provider work life
  • Making the business case for the CNL
  • Innovative CNL curriculum models that highlight emerging trends in healthcare and nursing education
  • Role of the CNL in new models of care in an era of healthcare reform, with a focus on integrating care across the continuum, transitions, and care coordination
  • Improving outcomes in complex care environments and with complex populations

Abstract Presentation Formats:
  • Poster Presentation: Poster presentations will be presented live and electronically. All poster presenters are expected to provide a virtual one-page slide and upload a pre-recorded, two-minute video summarizing their poster. Abstract submissions for posters to be presented in person at the Summit will be given preference. Those presenting live will be asked in addition to the virtual slide and brief video to present the poster on a poster board for easy viewing. All posters should be oriented in portrait format and must not be any larger than 46" H x 46" W. Awards will be given for first place and honorable mention posters.
  • Podium Presentation: All podium presentations will be done live, in-person. Podium presentations are allotted a 15-minute time slot. Three presentations focused on similar topics will be presented back-to-back followed by a 15-minute question and answer time for all three presentations. Presenters are provided with a laptop computer and LCD projector.

Preparing Your Abstract for Submission:
    Abstract Content:
    • The abstract should include background information and address methods, programs, or practices, and outcome data as applicable. It also should include summary recommendations for others who may be considering a similar approach.
    • Abstracts may have been presented elsewhere or published within the past two years. If this is the case, please update the material and make it specific to this event
    • Presenters will be asked to classify their submissions as most applicable to one of the following categories: “Education”, “CNL Practice”, “Administration/Management”, or “Both Education/Practice”.
    • Presenters also will be asked if they prefer to be considered for a podium, poster, or either podium or poster format. Podium presentations must be in person. Poster presentations may be in person or virtual; however, in person presentations will be given preference..

    Submission Requirements:
    • Submitters are allowed a maximum of two (2) abstract submissions per conference.
    • Abstract submissions that are incomplete after the submission deadline will not be eligible for presentation nor will they be considered for review.
    • Presenters are asked to identify any potential conflict of interest related to the content to be offered (e.g., commercial interest, affiliation with a vendor, and/or receipt of royalties) and affirm that their abstract presentations will not be used to sell a particular product or service. AACN has the right to rescind the acceptance of an abstract due to any conflict of interest discovered after the fact.

    Submission Process:
    • All abstracts must be submitted electronically through AACN’s submission website.
    • Submitters must create an account to upload their abstract
    • Submission sections include: Title, 300-word description, 1-2 learner objectives (e.g., "Identify strategies for..."), contact information for submitter(s)
    • Abstracts are formatted automatically and have a 300-word limit.
    • Submitters may access the site as often as they like to modify the document until the final submission deadline, December 1, 2022. Submitters have control over when the abstract is finally submitted.

    Due Date:
    • All abstracts are due on or before 11:59 p.m. EST on Friday, December 9, 2022
    • Once the abstract is finally submitted (by hitting “submit & review changes” then “finalize” on the website), the submitter will receive an email message confirming receipt of the abstract. If an email confirmation is not received, the abstract was not entered into the system and the submitter will need to go back and submit fully.

NOTE: All accepted presenters (including co-presenters) are required to register for the conference. All registered attendees are provided conference materials that will include a copy of the original abstract submission.
Review Process:
Each abstract is reviewed by at least two individuals and the process is blind; hence, reviewers do not see names of submitters or school affiliations. To increase the probability of an abstract being selected, please consider the following criteria:
  • Relevance to overall theme of conference and topics listed above
  • Clear connection to Clinical Nurse Leader education or practice
  • Quality of the abstract
  • Novelty of the topic (e.g., the topic addresses a new question or problem or approaches traditional questions from a novel perspective. This is not a requirement but may give your submission an advantage.)
  • All abstracts will be reviewed using this scoring rubric. To ensure that your abstract receives the highest score, please review the rubric before submitting your abstract.
Acceptance Notification:
  • Authors will be notified about the status of their submission(s) via email no later than December 20, 2022. This is sufficient time to meet the conference registration deadlines.
  • If you are accepted as an abstract (poster or podium) presenter, you will need to submit your PowerPoint Poster and Video on the submission website by Friday, February 3, 2023. Additional instructions on how to submit will follow if you are accepted.
