Call for Abstracts

1. Free Papers
(Abstract submission required)

Authors of accepted abstracts are invited to present their submissions in the form of a Free Paper presentation at the Annual Meeting. Free Papers may offer original research findings, literature reviews, technical notes of clinical techniques, and case studies. The content and/or presentation of the information will promote quality or improvements in orthotic or prosthetic care. The Clinical Content Committee will lead the blinded peer-review of submitted abstracts and approximately 70 abstracts will be accepted for presentation. Click here to review the scoring rubric. Free Paper presentations are 12 minutes in length and are organized and presented along with similar presentations based on a subject area. All accepted abstracts will also be published in the 2024 Academy Annual Meeting Journal of Proceedings.

Free Paper abstract submissions offer two template options. If you are submitting a Free Paper in the form of research findings, literature reviews, or technical notes of clinical techniques, you must use the provided Abstract Form Template. If you are submitting a Free Paper in the form of a case study, you must use the provided Case Study Abstract Form Template. Although formatted differently, case studies will be reviewed using the same scoring rubric as all other Free Paper submissions.

All abstract submissions are blind peer-reviewed by the Academy Annual Meeting Clinical Content Committee, which reserves the right to accept or reject abstracts.

2. Posters

Poster Presentations provide an additional forum for sharing information. Submissions may offer original research findings, literature reviews, technical notes of clinical techniques, and case studies. Click here for Poster Instructions.

Poster abstract submissions offer two template options. If you are submitting a poster in the form of research findings, literature reviews, or technical notes of clinical techniques, you must use the provided Abstract Form Template. If you are submitting a poster in the form of a case study, you must use the provided Case Study Abstract Form Template. Although formatted differently, case studies will be reviewed using the same scoring rubric as all other poster submissions.

All student posters accepted for presentation at the 2024 Academy Annual Meeting & Scientific Symposium will automatically be considered for the ABC Student Poster Prize^*.

3. Organized Sessions
(Suggestion Form submission required)

Organized Sessions deliver curated and clinically oriented content from subject matter experts. The format of the Organized Sessions is more flexible to allow for effective content delivery that meets pre-defined learning objectives, including interactive formats, polling, and other learning interruptions. The sessions are 90 minutes long and typically have three to five presenters. A session title, description, learning objectives, proposed speakers, and basis of evidence are required in this submission instead of a traditional abstract. The Clinical Content Committee will review all topics submitted via completed suggestion forms and consider a total of 8 Organized Session submissions for possible inclusion in the 2024 Annual Meeting Education programming.

The purpose of the abstract is to define the precise content of the presentation to the audience. Abstracts must adopt the introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion, and conclusion (IMRAD) format.

• The results of the study must be included in the abstract. You may not state that the results will be presented or discussed.
• Reference style should generally follow the American Medical Association Manual Style [1]. List references in the numerical order in which they appear in the manuscript.
• If submitting an abstract to provide an overview of a clinically relevant subject, such as a case study, new technique or literature review, outline the learning objectives and report on the methods used to compile the information or develop a given technique and all major conclusions.
• Method - If appropriate, use the standard presentation adopted in scientific papers. Subjects: sample size, demographics, medical conditions, as appropriate. Research tools: gait analysis, surveys, questionnaires, and other instruments. Procedures: what was done by whom to whom. Data Analysis: processing of data; statistical design; statistical tests.
• Summarize your results. Include graphs or tables as appropriate. Ensure that these fit within the column width. Alternately, place them at the bottom of the page in a single-column format. Use black and white graphics. Do not use color or shaded backgrounds.
• Discuss your results. Relate your results to those of other authors. State the primary conclusion and clinical implications, if any, of your work. Indicate any future directions you may be pursuing.
• In an effort to maintain the clinical relevance of the conference, every abstract must include a brief indication of its clinical applications.
• The promotion of a specific proprietary business or commercial interest is strictly prohibited.

• All abstracts must be original work attributable to the author.
• It is the presenting author's responsibility to ensure the accuracy of content, spelling, and presentation.
• The abstract must strictly comply with the formatting provided in the Abstract Form Template, or Case Study Abstract Form Template (text, text size, margins, one-page limit, formatting, etc.). The Clinical Content Committee reserves the right to reject abstracts that do not comply with the formatting requirements.
• This abstract, if accepted, will be published exactly as submitted in the 2024 Academy Annual Meeting Journal of Proceedings.

1. Steps to Abstract Form Completion

• Two abstract forms must be submitted. One will include author names. The second must be a blinded abstract, with any identifiable author information redacted.
• Your abstract is to be typed in the space provided on the Abstract Form by replacing the existing text using a minimum of 9-point font.
• Figures are acceptable and must be included within the Abstract Form in the spaces provided.
• Upload your completed Abstract Form and Blinded Abstract Form as part of your Abstract Application.

2. Abstract Application

• The lead author's full name, credentials, contact information, and biographical sketch are required. This information enables the committee to contact the lead author if any clarification is needed.
• A two-line description of the presentation must be provided. If your paper is accepted, this description will be included in Annual Meeting promotional materials.
• Include the full names and credentials of additional presenters when applicable.

Submission

• Complete the author, abstract, and additional information sections of the form.
• Upload your abstract and a blinded abstract to the portal and sign the presenter agreement.
• Select the "Save Submission" button and then select the "Submit" button.
• Confirmation of submission will be sent within 48 hours. It is your responsibility to confirm receipt of your abstract if you do not receive confirmation from the Academy.

You must complete the application and abstract form in its entirety. Changes can be made after submission up to the submission deadline. Instructions on making changes will be provided once the email address is added below.
