SHM Converge 2027 Call for Speaker & Topic Proposals
Welcome to the Society of Hospital Medicine's Speaker & Topic Proposals submission site for SHM Converge 2027. SHM Converge 2027 will be held March 30 – April 2, 2027 at the Mandalay Bay Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Our goal is to offer providers essential resources to complement their work and grow their expertise in hospital medicine.
Submission Types
The Submission Types for this year's Call for Speaker & Topic Proposals are explained in detail below. The goal is to incorporate new content and presenters through a more streamlined review process. Please review the recently updated submission guidelines before creating your proposal to ensure you are following the specified requirements.
Formal Submission Types:
These submission types are intended to have you as the main speaker. They will be reviewed under a scoring rubric and will receive official acceptances from the Annual Conference Committee (ACC). Please refer to the Converge Track Descriptions document to get more information about the session track options you can select within these submission types.
We are looking for qualified, inspirational, and motivational speakers who can address innovative approaches to healthcare. If you are a keynote speaker interested in presenting at SHM Converge, this is the submission type for you.

Informal Submission Types:
These submissions will have no official acceptance or declination notifications sent out, however the ACC may reach out for further details about your submission.
Informal Submissions

These submission types are intended to have you as the main speaker. They will be reviewed under a scoring rubric and will receive official acceptances from the Annual Conference Committee (ACC). We are looking for qualified, inspirational, and motivational speakers who can address innovative approaches to healthcare. If you are a keynote speaker interested in presenting at SHM Converge, this is the submission type for you.
Formal Keynote
- Sessions are 45 - 60 minutes.
- Speaker Eligibility
- Only 1 speaker is permitted.
- *Speaker will receive complimentary conference registration, travel/hotel expense coverage and honorarium all set within specified limit (official amount provided once speaker is accepted).
Formal Didactic
- Sessions are 50 minutes (40 minutes for lecture & 10 minutes for Q&A).
- Speaker Eligibility
- Up to 4 speakers accepted for didactic sessions with special exceptions occasionally made to include additional speakers at the ACC's discretion.
- You, as the main speaker, and up to 3 co-speakers.
- If an accepted speaker is not currently a member of SHM, they will be required to become one prior to the conference.
- Speaker may not submit more than 4 proposals.
- An individual is eligible to be accepted as a main/lead presenter for no more than 2 sessions.
- *The main speaker (proposal submitter and first speaker listed in session submission) will receive complimentary conference registration and a travel stipend. The main speaker’s registration and travel stipend are non-transferable and are per individual not per session.
- All co-speakers are required to register for the conference independently. Travel expenses for co-speakers will not be reimbursed.
Formal Workshop
- Sessions are 90 minutes.
- Speaker Eligibility
- Up to 8 speakers permitted. You, the submitter, will be considered the main speaker in the workshop. Up to 7 co-speakers may be added to your proposal under the Speaker Information task.
- It is pivotal that workshop speakers are diversified in representing various institutions and backgrounds.
- If an accepted speaker is not currently a member of SHM, they will be required to become one prior to the conference.
- Speaker may not submit more than 4 proposals.
- An individual is eligible to be accepted as a main/lead presenter for no more than 2 sessions.
- The ACC advises that at least 1 workshop speaker be at the junior level to promote career growth and opportunity.
- All accepted speakers will be listed and acknowledged as participating presenters in the conference mobile app and the online digital schedule.
- *The main speaker (proposal submitter and first speaker listed in workshop submission) will receive complimentary conference registration and a travel stipend. The main speaker’s registration and travel stipend are non-transferable and are per individual not per session.
- All co-speakers and facilitators are required to register for the conference independently. Travel expenses for co-speakers and facilitators will not be reimbursed.
- Workshops may also include a maximum of 6 additional facilitators. Facilitator will not receive any benefits or be listed on conference materials. Facilitators should not be added on the submission site. You may request to add facilitators if your submission is accepted.

Informal Submissions
- Informal submissions are for anyone who is interested in submitting a topic idea or a session with a speaker idea that they would like to see at SHM Converge 2027 or future conferences. These are simply ideas that the ACC can consider when choosing content for the Annual Conference, but do not request official learning objectives and speaker specifics that a formal submission requires.
