From Bench to Bedside and Beyond: Advancing Translational Science in Traumatic Stress Studies

The in-person ISTSS 40th Annual Meeting will focus on innovative strategies to apply basic science ‎knowledge to the assessment and treatment of traumatic stress, as well as on the translation of ‎scientific findings into actionable interventions for the global community.‎‎

‎ Broadly, the scientific content of this meeting aims to bridge the gap between bench, bedside, ‎and implementation in the field of traumatic stress science and enhance a seamless translation of ‎scientific knowledge into meaningful and feasible solutions. Ultimately, the goal of this meeting is ‎to reduce the public and economic health burden of traumatic stress symptoms for the global ‎community and foster patient outcomes, understanding and management of traumatic stress ‎symptoms and community resilience in the face of trauma.

‎‎ In pursuit of this goal, we seek submissions specific to the field of traumatic stress on‎ topics related--but not limited--to: ‎ ‎
  • ‎Application of biomedical science findings to inform assessments and interventions for ‎traumatic stress symptoms/disorders‎. ‎ ‎
  • ‎Research investigating the psychological, biological, social and behavioral ‎mechanisms that underlie post-trauma mental health.‎ ‎ ‎
  • ‎Research taking a life course perspective to address to address ‎the spectrum of ‎translational science research.‎ ‎
  • ‎Evidence-based practices and innovative research in basic science, intervention ‎development and implementation, and policy. ‎‎ ‎
  • ‎Innovative transdiagnostic treatment approaches addressing the myriad ‎consequences of trauma.‎‎ ‎
  • ‎Cutting-edge research methodologies and statistical frameworks for translational ‎science research.‎ ‎
  • ‎Ethical implications and considerations associated with the application of translational ‎science in traumatic stress studies.‎ ‎‎
  • Ways to effectively communicate and disseminate research to different stakeholders.‎ ‎‎
  • Ways to cultivate translational science and interdisciplinary exchange.‎ ‎‎
  • Challenges and debates in the area of translational science.‎ ‎
  • Translational science as applicable to the global community.‎‎
‎ ‎Participation Limits (Two Submissions Per Person)
‎ To promote participation by a wide range of presenters, individuals are limited to submitting two abstracts for which they have a presenting role. ‎‎

‎ ‎Policies‎ ‎
  • Presentations should be original contributions and that any presentation concerning work that has been ‎presented elsewhere should provide new information or a new perspective relative to the previous ‎presentation(s). ‎
  • Publication of the work, such as in a journal, prior to the date of abstract submission (not the abstract ‎submission deadline) is prohibited. ‎ ‎
  • Proposal descriptions must be sufficiently detailed to allow the relevance, originality and ‎feasibility to be ‎judged. For research presentation abstracts, submissions of findings are ‎strongly encouraged.‎ ‎
  • Incomplete proposals (draft status) will not be considered. Be sure to SUBMIT your abstract ‎
  • All live presentations may be recorded for asynchronous viewing.
‎ ‎Examples
‎ Competition for oral presentations is high; therefore, take the time to enter the best submission possible. Keep in ‎mind that many high quality proposals must be turned away simply due to lack of space. For examples of model ‎and problematic oral presentation proposals, click here.

‎ ‎Review Process
‎ Submissions are rated for rigor (scientific, clinical or intellectual), relevance for ISTSS members and consistency ‎with the meeting theme. Proposal descriptions must be sufficiently detailed to allow evaluation of these criteria. ‎‎

‎ ‎Submission Recommendation
‎ When submitting your presentation and/or poster abstract submission, ‎it is strongly recommended that the individual who will be presenting in-person, is ‎the abstract submitter. Please note: If someone else submits the abstract on behalf of the primary presenter, that ‎person will become the point-person and receive all follow-up emails that will need to be forwarded to the primary ‎presenter.

‎ ‎ ‎COVID Protocol
‎ ISTSS will require attendees at the 2024 Annual Meeting to follow all COVID-19 guidelines that are in place at the ‎time of the meeting from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, state and local government, and ‎conference hotel, Boston Marriott Copley Place, Boston, Massachusetts. ‎Individuals should contact the Executive Director to address specific circumstances or exceptional situations.‎
