2019 CFAS Spring Meeting – Call for Ignite-Style Session Proposals

2019 CFAS Spring Meeting
April 4-6, 2019
JW Marriott Atlanta Buckhead
Atlanta, Georgia

Submission Deadline:
Friday, November 16, 2018, 11:59 p.m. (Eastern)

The 2019 CFAS Spring Meeting’s call for ignite-style session proposals is now open.

Logging in below will enable you to submit a proposal for our April meeting in Atlanta, Ga. We are looking to fill two time slots with proposals received from this call. Accepted proposals will be presented on the main stage to all attendees. Although the session slot will be 75 minutes, the proposals accepted will receive only a portion of this time and will be grouped thematically.

We are seeking proposals in an ignite-style format, which will feature 4 brief presentations on a specific theme, followed by Q&A and discussion. An ignite-style session is quick, lively, and focused, with a limited number of slides that advance rapidly – in this case, about 12 minutes per session, with no more than 10 slides. These will not be ignite sessions in the strictest definition for those of you who may have experienced them elsewhere, but a close approximation.

Ignite-style proposals should be aligned along the following themes:
  • Sexual Harassment
  • Medical Education
Both themes have a corresponding plenary session. For the medical education theme, we wish to cover UME, GME, and research and basic science presentations giving the overall session broad appeal to faculty. Please keep that in mind if you develop a proposal.

Presenters will be responsible for providing their own handouts. AAMC will be happy to place resources on our conference website or mobile app. If printed handouts are required, they will be the responsibility of the presenter to provide. By submitting a proposal for consideration, you are agreeing to present this proposal at the 2018 CFAS Spring Meeting and to cover registration and travel expenses related to this.

As always, the meeting will provide tools and resources you can share with your medical school and specialty societies.

The meeting additionally will feature table topics and themed table breakfast discussions. Proposals for those sessions will be invited during the meeting registration process. Proposals submitted through this call that are not accepted may be invited as table topics.

Meeting Background

The CFAS spring professional development conference provides representatives and attendees a unique forum to collaborate with peers from medical schools and academic societies nationwide on the issues that matter most to them. It is designed to be fully interactive and social, with opportunities throughout the event to get to know your peers from around the country and across disciplines, specialties, career seniority, and roles. Please join us in Atlanta where you can:
  • Become fluent in academic medicine’s current hot topics.
  • Understand key issues and new perspectives by networking across diverse groups.
  • Help shape future CFAS initiatives and programming.
This year’s meeting will include three topical plenaries on sexual harassment, biomedical ethics, and medical education, along with an AAMC leadership update, interactive workshops and ignite-style breakout sessions, and numerous networking opportunities. Across the program, you’ll find opportunities for clinicians, scientists, and educators to share perspectives, learn from each other, and gather key information to bring back to your home institutions.

In addition, the meeting will build upon last year’s successful debut of the CFAS Leadership Curriculum, offering CFAS representatives the opportunity to further develop skills as faculty leaders.

As always, the meeting will include CFAS committee meetings in the first day, along with a business meeting and an election for the next CFAS chair-elect. And in response to your requests, the meeting will have wellness activities built into the program, providing opportunities to move around, relax, and reflect.

We look forward to seeing you in Atlanta in April 2019!
