CT Hall of Fame Rules and Procedures
Nomination and judging process:
  • CTA will signal the beginning of the induction process with a broad call for nominations via all CTA communications vehicles and through communications to Members and Boards. Nominations are open to CTA members, and anyone involved in the consumer technology industry at large.
  • In addition to the nomination forms received from CTA.tech, CTA members and staff as well as the industry-at-large, judges also can nominate candidates for consideration prior to the judging.
  • CTA staff will screen the nominee list prior to submission to the judges to identify any possible conflicts or issues.
  • Short bios for the nominees will be shared via judging software.
  • New nominations cannot be accepted after the closing date.
Rules and Eligibility Criteria for Induction
  • Candidates must have made a significant contribution that positively impacted the consumer technology industry in terms of leadership, technical and marketing development and enhanced the lifestyle and work style of consumers.
  • Candidates must have been involved in the consumer technology industry for at least ten (10) years prior to the year of consideration for induction (e.g., a nominee for consideration for the class of 2022 must have been active in the industry prior to 2012).
  • In case of the death of a candidate who has been retired for less than two (2) full years, a candidate who is otherwise ineligible shall be eligible in the next regular election held no less than four years after the date of death.
  • Candidates, who have been indicted, committed a felony or are of questionable character and integrity as determined by CTA’s Executive Board are not eligible for the Hall of Fame.
Voting
  • The deadline for nominations is determined by CTA.
  • Judges will vote for two inductees from the full nomination list.
  • From the nomination forms received, the judges will do their voting via voting software.
  • Each final candidate shall receive no more than five points on a scale of 0-5 (0 is the lowest score; 5 is the highest) in the following categories:
    • Contribution to the industry or impact of invention/innovation
    • Integrity and character
    • Participation in CTA or contribution to supporting industry at large
    • Other considerations
  • The number of inductees shall not exceed two in any given year.
  • In the event of a tie, the judges representing the CTA Board will serve as tiebreakers.
  • Judges may be nominated but if so, they are disqualified from judging during the year(s) in which they are being considered for induction.
  • Nominees who have been nominated but not selected over three consecutive years should be removed from the nominee list for at least two years.
Selection, Role and Term of Judges:
  • All judges serve at the pleasure of CTA.
  • Final judges will be selected by CTA’s staff based on input from CTA’s Communications Committee, CTA staff and existing judges. The judging panel shall include representatives who currently sit on or are selected by the Executive Board; industry trade journalists with at least five years of experience and who are covering the consumer technology industry as an employee or regular freelancer with a recognized industry media outlet; representatives who currently sit on or are nominated by CTA’s Communications Committee; and members of current CTA staff. Industry trade journalists should make up one third of the total judging pool.
  • Starting in 2023, judges should serve no more than two consecutive years. Judges may be eligible for nomination following a one-year absence.
  • All rules and procedures governing the Hall of Fame are determined by CTA’s Executive Board. The Executive Board has the exclusive right to amend or add to the existing rules and procedures. Input from existing judges and CTA’s Communications Committee is welcome.
  • The specific and sole role of the judges is to review the final nominees as screened by CTA staff, vote on and present to CTA staff a final list of recommended honorees.
  • CTA's Communications Committee has oversight of the promotion of the Hall and its inductees including media outreach and other related public relations activities.
  • Conflict of Interest - Judges must disclose if they are an associate or are or have previously been employed by a nominee or nominee’s company. Judges must recuse themselves from voting from that nominee.
  • Judges should only share input based on information and experience with a nominee and avoid hearsay when discussing a nominee.
  • Judges who violate rules are no longer eligible to be a judge.
CTA’s Executive Board shall adopt and enforce the proposed rules and as deemed necessary, make any additions or alterations to help ensure the quality, character and integrity of the Hall of Fame program.
