Abstract

University clinical education leaders in Communication Sciences and Disorders occupy uniquely complex roles—balancing clinical administration, faculty leadership, supervision/precepting, and student development. Yet many leaders step into these roles with limited opportunity to reflect on their professional identity or to intentionally develop supervisory cultures that support both educators and learners.

This immersive day-and-a-half development experience is designed specifically for university-based clinical educators seeking to strengthen their professional identity, enhance clinical education practices, and build sustainable systems that foster growth across all levels of clinical training.

The opening half-day, facilitated by dB Coaching Group, will focus on helping participants clarify their professional identity and leadership approach. Through guided activities and reflection, participants will examine how their role influences supervision, decision-making, and clinical culture.

For the remainder of the event, participants will learn how to coach others in making the critical transition from supervisor to clinical educator—equipping preceptors to do more than oversee performance, but to actively shape clinical reasoning, independence, and professional growth. Supporting student clinicians' development of self-efficacy will also be explored.

Across these sessions, participants will be invited to step fully into their role as educators — to examine not just what they teach, but how and why. Drawing on evidence-based principles to gain practical tools that structure meaningful clinical experiences, give feedback that builds clinical reasoning, and create learning environments where students don't just perform skills, but develop professional judgment. This academy will include quarterly live webinars in the following year to support continued learning and growth.
