Welcome to the APT Getty Scholar Application Submission Site

APT is offering two types of grants for the 2023 conference in Seattle, thanks to support from Getty: Latin American Scholar Grants and Equity Scholar Grants. This year we are offering up to 20 the grants to attend our October 9-14 conference in Seattle, Washington with ten Latin American Scholarships and ten Equity Scholarships. This program builds upon other APT diversity efforts including the growth of our Latin American-Caribbean Chapter (LACC), the formation of our Inclusion Advocacy Committee and several Community Engagement Projects we’ve completed in the last several years.

To qualify for a 2023 Getty Grant each candidate must:
  • Be a current APT member at the time of conference registration if accepted to receive a scholarship. (APT membership is not required to apply for a scholarship.)
  • Be able to actively participate in English spoken sessions during the conference. (In order to fully engage with other participants on the level we desire to build relationships, particularly during informal social and networking aspects of the conference, a strong proficiency in English is necessary.)
  • Submit a detailed budget for their personal travel costs with their application.
  • Be able to pay for their airfare and ground transportation in their home country in advance. These expenses will be reimbursed via wire transfer following the conference.
  • Complete the grant application, including a justification why the review committee should select them as someone who will professionally benefit from the scholarship and whose attendance will benefit the preservation movement and APT.
  • Submit a resume/curriculum vitae.
  • Prepare a poster (recipients responsible for printing) highlighting your work and be willing to discuss it with conference attendees.

Additionally, Latin American Scholar Candidates must:
  • Be a permanent resident in Latin America or the Caribbean. Unfortunately, we cannot accept applications from Cuba.

  • Or, Equity Candidates must:
  • Be BIPOC candidates who reside in the USA or Canada.

  • Application Deadline
Complete and submit all required information online before September 1, 2023. If you have any questions or need assistance completing your application, please contact Sandra Sanchez Pierre at

  • Airfare and Ground Transportation: Recipients of the grant must book and prepay for economy round trip air transportation from their place of residence to Seattle, Washington and ground transportation expenses, both in their place of residence and in Seattle. Travel expenses will be reimbursed by wire transfer after the conference and once receipts and a program evaluation form have been submitted to APT. Expenses above and beyond your budget approved with your application acceptance letter will not be covered.
  • A per diem of $40 [per day] for 5 days for miscellaneous onsite expenses will be distributed in US dollars at the beginning of the conference.
  • APT will pay the hotel directly for up to (5) nights for each grant recipient.
  • The scholarship includes conference registration and one half-day field session. Grant recipients choosing to attend additional field sessions or workshops would be required to cover the cost of any additional fee events or activities.
  • IMPORTANT: Grant recipients, who for any reason do not register at the conference or decide not to attend the conference, will not be reimbursed any fees or costs they incur.

  • This program is made possible with support from Getty through its Professional Organization Support initiative.

Please note: We have been informed by Getty that this program is sunsetting and this will be the final year we will be offering this particular scholarship opportunity.
