Welcome to the APT Getty Fellows Application and APT Equity Scholar Submission Site

APT is offering two types of grants for the 2026 conference in Indianapolis, the APT Getty Fellows grant for professionals and the APT Equity Scholar grant for students. This program builds upon APT's goal to support the growth and development of wide ranging perspectives within the historic preservation field.

The APT Getty Fellows grant is made possible with support from Getty.

The APT Equity Scholars program is made possible by the continued support from CSI, Simple Design Studio-Architects, and the Patti the Preservationist initiative.

This program is an enhancement to a previous scholarship program offered by APT and supported by Getty. Be sure to check eligibility and selection requirements.

Requirements

To qualify for a 2026 APT Getty Fellows grant each professional candidate must:

  • Be a professional or emerging professional (persons within four years of entering the preservation field from a college, university, or trade apprenticeship program) whose work, background, or life experience provides an informative and under-represented perspective to APT and the field.
  • Be an international (from a country with an emerging economy) or domestic professional who is historically under-represented and/or who lacks access to professional development funds to attend the conference.
  • Be a current APT member at the time of conference registration if accepted to receive the grant. (APT membership is not required to apply.)
  • Be able to actively participate in English spoken sessions during the conference. (In order to fully engage with other participants on the level we desire to build relationships, particularly during informal social and networking aspects of the conference, a strong proficiency in English is necessary.)
  • Submit a detailed budget for their travel costs.
  • Be able to pay for their airfare and ground transportation in their home country in advance. These expenses will be reimbursed via wire transfer following the conference.
  • Complete the grant application, including a justification why the review committee should select them as someone who will professionally benefit from the scholarship and whose attendance will benefit the preservation field and APT.
  • Submit a resume/curriculum vitae.
  • Prepare a poster (recipients responsible for printing) highlighting your work and be willing to discuss it with conference attendees.

To qualify for a 2026 APT Equity Scholar grant each student candidate must:

  • Be a college student, graduate student, or a participant in a trades apprenticeship program.
  • Demonstrate how their background, experience, or work will bring a perspective not currently well represented in the preservation field.
  • Support the values of inclusion and belonging.
  • Be able to pay for their airfare in advance. A travel stipend will be provided following the conference.
  • Complete the grant application, including a justification why the review committee should select them as someone who will benefit from the grant.
  • Prepare a poster (recipients responsible for printing) to be displayed at the APT Annual Conference. Participants will have an opportunity to discuss their projects and network with conference attendees.
