Notifications sent to Nominees advancing to second round.
  • The Awards Committee will request the nominee to submit additional materials at this time including (but not limited to): a self-written recommendation, an external recommendation, additional CV information, etc.
  • Please note: Due to the review timeline, these materials may be requested with a short turnaround time.
 Late November - Early December, 2026
Notifications sent to all submitters. Late January - Early February, 2027


IMPORTANT NOTES:
  • All nominees must be active, dues-paying members of the Society of Hospital Medicine for a minimum of one (1) year prior to the submission deadline.
  • Nominees should have demonstrated engagement with the Society of Hospital Medicine and its missions.
    • Engagement with the Society of Hospital Medicine:
      • Should be well described in the nomination materials.
      • The SHM engagement may may be demonstrated by the candidate’s description of their involvement with the Society (e.g., years of SHM membership; service on SHM committees, special interest groups, task forces or panels for scientific meetings, presentation of research at SHM meetings (abstracts, posters, and oral sessions), presentation of didactics, workshops, and/or advanced learning courses at SHM meetings, participation at SHM local or regional meetings, attendance at SHM sponsored activities; etc.).
      • If an applicant has limited engagement in SHM, they should describe their involvement in other national hospital-medicine initiatives as well as future plans for engagement with SHM including the SHM Academic Summit, SHM Leadership Academy, SHM Converge, and other SHM National and Regional offerings.
  • Any current SHM member other than Board members, officers, previous individual award winners or SHM awards committee members is eligible to apply.
  • Members may self-nominate.
    • PLEASE NOTE: If you self-nominate and your nomination advances to the second round of review, you will be required to provide additional supporting materials, including an external recommendation.
    • Due to the review timeline, these materials may be requested with a short turnaround time.
  • Please review the criteria for each award as some awards have further eligibility standards, including the Teamwork Award.
  • The maximum number of nominations per nominee, per category is 2, including self-nominations. Please review the full submission requirements for additional information regarding the max number of nominations.

Winners Will Receive:

  • Complimentary meeting registration to SHM Converge 2027*
  • Recognition on stage at SHM Converge 2027
  • An award placard
  • Acknowledgement in The Hospitalist, SHM’s monthly news magazine, and on SHM's main website.
  • Recognition in press releases to local and state outlets
*Excludes Advanced Learning Course registration. Recipients of the Excellence in Teamwork will receive recognition at Annual Meeting and complimentary registration for up to 4 team members. Recipients of the Junior Investigator Award will also receive complimentary membership for one-year.
