PRESENTATION TYPES
Oral Presentation | Manuscript submission to HPB is encouraged, however, there is no manuscript submission required. If your abstract is not selected as an Oral presentation, it will automatically be considered for a Mini Oral or ePoster presentation.

Mini Oral/ePoster | Mini Oral/ePoster submissions will be considered for a non-podium presentation. Case reports welcome.

Advanced Practice Provider Paper | Submissions will be considered for the APP Symposium. Any submissions that are not accepted, will automatically be considered for an ePoster presentation.

Tricks of the Trade (4 mins - multimedia or video) | "Tricks of the Trade" submissions may be in the form of a video or multimedia (drawings/sketches etc.) format. If you submit a video, it must be no longer than 4 minutes in length. Video file size must be 500 Mb or less. This session is intended to highlight your technical “tricks” in HPB surgery and/or pearls of patient management. The accompanying abstract should summarize the technical issue or management problem addressed, a description with potential diagrams and a video of your unique technique/strategy to manage the problem, and an explanation of the perceived advantages of your approach. Anyone at any level with a novel idea, strategy, or technique is encouraged to submit to this competitive session. Sound is mandatory for a video/clip and those files must be submitted as a .MP4 format.

Video (7 mins) | Video submissions must be no longer than 7 minutes in length. Video file size must be 500 Mb or less. Sound is mandatory and files must be submitted as a .MP4 format. As part of the video submission process, a written abstract must be submitted.

  • FORMAT
    • No reference to the authors or the institution should appear within the body of the abstract.
    • DRUG NAMES:
      • At the first mention of a drug, the nonproprietary generic name in lower case is required followed by the proprietary name capitalized and in parentheses, e.g. furosemide (Lasix)
    • TERMINOLOGY:
      • Please use Brisbane 2000 terminology to describe liver resection and anatomy. Click here to view terminology descriptions and informational graphic.
      • For survival analyses, include the median follow-up interval for the cohort. Comparing long-term outcomes beyond the median follow-up time point is discouraged.

  • AHPBA DUPLICATE SUBMISSION POLICY
    • Any abstract/data that has been presented at a National or International English language meeting, published in an English language journal and/or PubMed prior to submission and is presented at the annual AHPBA meeting will be considered a duplicate presentation or publication, which is impermissible. The one exception is for those individuals submitting to the IHPBA. Investigators are allowed to submit to both within the same calendar year. Presentations at the local, state, or regional level at meetings that do not publish in English language journals are exempt. Presentations in languages other than English are exempt. The penalty is that both the submitter and the senior author will be barred from submitting abstracts/data to the AHPBA for 2 years. The department chair of the submitter and senior author will be notified by letter.
