Welcome to the AIUM 2021 Abstract Submission Site

The American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine invites all members and nonmembers to submit abstracts for the AIUM 2021 Annual Meeting. The meeting will be held April 11–14, 2021. The AIUM accepts abstracts that have been previously presented or published.

The deadline for submission of abstracts is Monday, December 7, 2020, at 11:59 am Eastern Time. Once you begin an abstract submission, you will be able to save your work and return to complete it until the submission deadline; we encourage all submitters to begin the process early! You must hit the Submit button on the top right to officially submit your abstract. If you do not receive a confirmation of submission, you should log in and hit Submit.

In accordance with the ACCME’s Standards for Commercial Support of Continuing Medical Education, all presenters and coauthors must disclose any financial relationship(s) or other relationship(s) held within the past 12 months. The AIUM implements a mechanism to identify and resolve all conflicts of interest prior to delivering the educational activity to learners. The AIUM will only review abstracts with completed conflict of interest disclosures from ALL presenters and coauthors.

Please note that the AIUM does not permit employees or owners of entities producing, marketing, re-selling, or distributing health care goods or services consumed by, or used on, patients to deliver CME content. Abstracts with said conflicts will not be considered.

There are four formats for abstract submission:

Oral (including New Investigators)
Presentations in the Basic Science category will be 12 minutes (10-minute presentation, 2-minute Q&A). Presentations in any other category will be 7 minutes (5-minute presentation, 2-minute Q&A). Some presenters will qualify to enter the New Investigator award competition, which encourages New Investigators to become active within the AIUM and ultrasound research. There is a monetary award associated with the New Investigator award (up to $500).

Electronic poster
New for 2021: Accepted E-posters will have the option to submit a short presentation video as well as a slide presentation, up to 10 slides.

Oral then Electronic poster (includes New Investigators for oral only)
Submit your abstract to be first considered as an oral presentation and if not accepted, it will automatically become an E-poster.

Case Report
A case report is a detailed report including a title, introduction, case description (symptoms, signs, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up), and conclusion. Case reports will be considered for presentations totaling 7 minutes (5-minute presentation, 2-minute Q&A). If the case report is not selected for oral presentation, it will automatically be included as an electronic poster.

IMPORTANT! You will be notified about the status of your abstract in early February. Presenting authors whose abstract is accepted for an oral presentation must register as a participant for the AIUM 2021 Annual Meeting by March 1, 2021, pay the appropriate registration fee, and present the abstract at the assigned date and time. Changes to the schedule will be made on a case by case basis. At least one of the authors of an E-poster must register as a participant for the AIUM 2021 Annual Meeting by March 1, 2021, for the abstract to be included in the program.

All accepted abstracts will appear as part of the Official Proceedings, a supplement of the Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine.

Together or Apart
Due to the significant probability that government or institutional restrictions on large public gatherings will still be in place at the time of the AIUM Annual Meeting we are not yet able to confirm if we will be able to hold the event in person. In light of this uncertainty we plan to offer this event online at the very least. We have a contractual venue commitment for the event and our intention is to hold the event in person if we are able to do so. Staff and leadership are monitoring the situation closely and we will announce final plans as soon as we are able.
