Obesity Medicine 2022 Call for Proposals

The Obesity Medicine Association is now accepting presentation proposals for the
Obesity Medicine 2022 Conference from April 29 - May 1, 2022, in Atlanta, Georgia
and the Digital Experience from May 20-21, 2022.

New this conference, there will be two distinct tracks of education, the proficiency track and master tracks during the Spring Obesity Summit. Please see each track description below for information on the audience that your proposed session should be targeting. Within each track, there are specific themes/topics that the CME Planning Committee is specifically seeking to address. Please read the track and topic/theme descriptions thoroughly before beginning the submission process. Submission content should effectively address one of the themes/topics listed below and targets the specific audience the track is focused on. OMA welcomes submissions for either or both tracks. Each individual can submit up to four proposals. Neither of these tracks target learners who are at the beginner level of obesity medicine.

Proficiency Track

The primary target audience for this track are obesity medicine clinicians who either practice obesity medicine full time or incorporate it somehow into their practice. This tracks provides content at an intermediate level that expands on the learners’ foundational knowledge in obesity medicine. The sessions in this track should build on the learners’ familiarity and experience practicing obesity medicine. The content may also focus on an integration of skills. We ask that you submit a proposal that falls under one of the four themes listed below.
  • Essentials in obesity medicine: These proposed sessions should build on topics that are essential to developing an intermediate level understanding of obesity as a disease and strengthening practical treatment skills. Topics can include the epidemiology and pathophysiology of obesity, assessment of the patient with obesity, stigma and bias issues prevalent in obesity medicine, and cultural sensitivity in the clinical setting
  • Practical treatment strategies: These proposed sessions should describe practical treatment strategies and interventions that have consistently been demonstrated to be safe and effective for the treatment of obesity and adiposity-related disease. Implementation of these established programs, technologies, and methodologies should enhance patient engagement in clinical obesity medicine and should be driven by measurable improvements in the overall care and health of individuals and populations with obesity
  • Utilizing interdisciplinary teams: These proposed sessions should explore how clinicians, in various practice settings, incorporate collaborative teams in the patient care continuum. Topics will review how to optimize patient outcomes by leveraging resources that support nutritional implementation, behavioral interventions, physical activity recommendations, medication management, and surgical interventions
  • Applying advances in obesity medicine: The proposed sessions should discuss cutting edge evaluation, prevention and treatment of obesity strategies and new research findings in the field of obesity medicine. Sessions in this category should focus on the application and implementation of these latest advances in clinical practice. Topics may include recent research findings focused on treatment areas, such as; nutrition, behavior, physical activity, pharmacotherapy, and surgery

Masters Track

The primary target audience for this track are highly advanced and experienced obesity medicine clinicians who either practice obesity medicine full time or incorporate it somehow into their practice. Content for this track should be at an advanced level that builds upon established experience, knowledge and skills in obesity medicine. These sessions should allow learners to refine their knowledge and skills in obesity medicine and learn to effectively utilize them across challenging contexts. These advanced level sessions should be more specialized in nature and allow the learner to integrate and enhance knowledge and skills into their practice. We ask that you submit a proposal that falls under one of the topics listed below.
  • Detailed nutrition discussion such as creating personal and customizable nutritional interventions for each patient, or on identifying the unique nutritional needs of patients
  • Exercise physiology for fat loss and muscle preservation. Specifically, around protein intake goals and training targets (strength vs cardio balance)
  • Obesity in specific clinical conditions – Pathophysiology, Clinical Impact and Mechanisms for conditions such as Type 1 Diabetes, COPD, chronic renal failure, advance liver disease, cancer survivors, psychiatric disease or chronic pain conditions
  • Genetics and Epigenetics– the influence of and recent advances in knowledge surrounding genetics/epigenetic on obesity and possible future interventions
  • Updates or new research on diagnostic techniques, body composition, energy expenditure, wearable devices, telehealth and obesty codes
  • Updates or new research on anti-obesity medications and anti-obesity drugs in development
  • Complex cases such as those that have multiple diagnoses, advance disease states, or multiple contraindications to conventional therapy – how to engage and treat
  • Other Additional advanced topic areas that do not fit into the topics described above
