Welcome to the SESC Call for Abstracts!
Deadline: September 14, 2026 at 11:59pm Eastern Time
Presentation Types:
- Oral Presentation: Accepted oral presentations require submission of a manuscript to The American Surgeon. Abstracts not selected for oral presentation will be considered for Quickshot Oral presentation. Please note: Case reports are not eligible for this category.
- Quickshot Oral Presentation: Quickshot Oral presentations are encouraged to submit to The American Surgeon at the author's discretion. Submissions may also be considered for non-podium presentation opportunities. Case reports allowed. Accepted Quickshot Oral Presentations may be limited to three per individual presenter.
- Video Presentation (8 min): Video presentations do not require manuscript submission. If not selected for a Video podium presentation, submissions will be considered for Quickshot Oral presentation.
Format:
- The abstract body (excluding title and author string) must not exceed 400 words.
- Optional inclusion of one graph, photo, or table in .jpg format.
- Video presentations must not exceed 8 minutes, sound optional, in MP4 format.
- Abstracts should not contain references to authors or institutions.
Duplicate Submission Policy:
Abstracts that have been previously presented at a state or local level are permitted to submit to the SESC, contingent that the prior presentation did not result in formal publication.
Submission Requirements:
- You do not need to be a Southeastern Surgical Congress member to submit an abstract. Non-members require sponsorship from a member for submission.
Awards:
- Young Investigator Research Award: Open to medical students or residents. Award valued at $1,000 to support travel and accommodation. To qualify at least one of the co-authors must be a member in good standing with SESC. Additionally, the first author/presenter will be a medical student or resident at the time of the SESC Annual Meeting.
- Gold Medal Award: First author/presenter must be a medical student, resident, or fellow at the time of the SESC Annual Meeting and at least one of the co-authors must be a member in good standing with SESC.
